Does Otex work?

Otex vs Olive oil

Many pharmarcies and online retailers will sell the benefits of using Otex a brand of earwax removal spray, Otex sprays contain the active ingredient urea hydrogen peroxide, which helps to soften ear wax.

In our experience Otex will make the earwax soft, however we have multiple people feel further discomfort, where the earwax may melt and go slightly deeper rather than dissolving completely. Otex has a few rare side effects aswell;

· Mild irritation and bubbling sensation in the ear after using the drops.

· Pain and discomfort in the ear.

· Dizziness.

· Unpleasant taste (very rarely).

At Somerset Hearing based in Taunton, we use gold standard methods of earwax removal, Micro-suction, Irrigation and manual removal. We recommend all clients (except people with known perforated eardrums) to use olive oil 7-5 days twice per day per ear effected to soften the earwax before treatment. This allows us to safely remove the earwax, earwax removal is a painless procedure that should be.
